The year of 1966 was introduced with the catchphrase "the most wanted car by the market - presented to the world by bringing together the essence of Toyota's technology." It was developed by widely adopting technologies that were firsts for a domestically produced car and world firsts as a family car. No matter which car it was compared to, the Corolla's innovative features stood out and it always drew a crowd of onlookers wherever it was driven.
A Corolla with Even Greater Competence
To build upon the favorable reputation of the first generation and to further increase Corolla brand loyalty, meticulous attention was given to developing a vehicle that valued "the feel" and presented immediately noticeable advancements over its predecessor. Due to its popularity, production volume of the new model was dramatically increased, and in June 1970, the cumulative production total of Corollas reached one million units.

Corolla, One Step Ahead
In March 1979, the fourth generation Corolla was reborn, as a luxurious family car with superior overall performance to meet diverse user needs. The model was highly popular and it held the top position for the greatest number of passenger vehicles produced. Then in January 1983, exports reached 116 nations for a total export of 4,730,000 units. In March, the cumulative production total of Corollas reached 10 million units.

The fifth generation Corolla was developed to further strengthen the dominance of the Corolla as the bestselling car in the world. In the four years after its release, the Corolla successfully acquired the No. 1 position in domestic sales and also received favorable reputations overseas.
