Safety Training Seminar

As part of its safety program to its staff, BUMC organized with the Lebanese Civil Defense a seminar which was held on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th, September 2014 at BUMC head office in Hazmieh. The seminar was important to be held in the new headquarter, where the staff of the company learnt how to protect themselves as well as the customers that might be in the premises in case of fire. The staff was divided into groups of 6 to 8 people so that they can benefit more from the session.

The seminar was introduced with common fire precautions approach while focusing on cases which may happen at the company. It was divided in 2 parts: theoretical and practical. Theoretically, fire survives with the fire triangle: oxygen, heat and fuel; when removing one or more of these components, you will be turning off the fire. Inflammable materials that can be found in the company are divided in 3 classes: • Solids like papers, cardboards, wood, cloth, trash and plastics. • Liquids like paint. • Gas like gasoline. In the practical part, the employees built a fire and turned it off by several methods: • Throttling by sand, carpet floor, or any available cover. • Cooling by water. • Limitation and Isolation: closing the door to limit the oxygen quantity, removing all inflammable substances close to the incident. • Using the fire extinguisher in the proper way covering all the burned spaces. • And definitely, watching the area in case of re-ignition. All the staff from managers to employees and technicians tried these techniques in order to fight the fire if any. After all, as the proverb says “Precaution is better than cure”; BUMC has all the safety conditions: emergency staircases, fire extinguishers, fire alarms and well trained employees. The seminar comes as part of the continued BUMC’s engagement towards the safety standards in its buildings and offices. BUMC helped in expanding public awareness about the disasters that may occur and the know-how of its management.
