The economic crisis in Lebanon hit the education system hard.  More than 90,000 Lebanese students have been displaced since the crisis broke out in 2019, says the education ministry, which is bracing itself for many more when schools start re-opening from September 27. Like other countries, Lebanon moved to distanced learning in March of last year due to the pandemic with intermittent classroom returns for some students. Worsening the situation – educational professionals especially teachers have emigrated seeking better lives abroad – thereby further threatening Lebanon’s collapsing educational sector and leaving a ‘brain drain.’ Lebanon's financial meltdown, one on the planet's worst since the 1850s, has decimated the country's middle class and devastated the poor class. 

Toyota Motor Corporation is committed to the United Nations’ seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)- and this initiative supports the fourth goal: Quality Education. BUMC s.a.l. in alignment with this mission to promote the right to quality education kicked off the distribution of essential school supplies to children and help reduce the economic burden on parents with this support. 
Ahead of the school year, BUMC s.a.l. donated 540 pouches of stationary filled with all the classroom supplies needed like pencils, different shades of pens, rulers, notebooks, colored pencils, erasers, sharpers among others. These pouches and stationary items will go straight in the hands of children who need it most to start the new school year. A portion of the pouches were donated directly to Beit el Baraka, a local non-profit organization that cares for family rights. 

BUMC s.a.l. hopes that this gesture will help marginalized and impoverished families ahead of the school start.
